Vision in learning clinic

Sharper Focus. Healthier Eyes.

At Roberts Optometrist, we understand that clear vision is at the heart of effective learning. Good eyesight plays a vital role in focus, reading, and concentration, especially for children, where undetected vision issues can often be mistaken for learning difficulties. Our expert eye examinations are designed to identify and address these challenges early, helping every child reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond

The impact of visual learning can be transformational

Visual stress is becoming increasingly common, often associated with prolonged close-up tasks such as reading or screen use. While it can affect individuals of all ages, it is particularly noticeable in younger students with visual processing difficulties, including dyslexia.

Our Vision in Learning clinic is specifically designed to support these students by identifying and addressing the visual challenges that impact their learning.

For adults, especially those who spend many hours working on computers or reading, visual stress may present as headaches, eyestrain, or even migraines. These symptoms can reduce comfort, concentration, and productivity.

Our Vision in Work clinic provides a detailed assessment of how your eyes work together and how effectively they focus. This enables us to recommend tailored solutions to improve visual comfort, efficiency and overall well-being. Adults with dyslexia, as well as those experiencing persistent visual strain, often find this service particularly beneficial.

If your child is struggling at school or you suspect they may have undetected visual challenges, we’re here to help.

What are visual learning skills?

When we think about eyesight, we often focus on how clearly a person can see, but vision is about much more than 20/20 sight. For children especially, visual skills are the foundation of how they read, write, and learn every day.

Visual skills are the brain's ability to make sense of what the eyes see. Even if a child has perfect eyesight, they may still struggle with the visual processing skills needed for the classroom.

Key visual skills include:

  • Eye tracking – following a line of text smoothly and accurately

  • Eye teaming – using both eyes together in a coordinated way

  • Focusing flexibility – switching focus between near and far objects

  • Visual memory – remembering what’s been seen, like letters or words

  • Visual-motor integration – coordinating vision and movement (important for writing and sports)

When any of these areas aren’t working as they should, children may find it harder to concentrate, read fluently, or keep up in class. At Roberts Optometrists, our Vision in Learning Clinic is designed to identify and support these visual challenges early – helping children thrive in school and beyond.
